Inventory overview

Inventory tracks quantity and cost in warehouses: receiving goods, moving stock, and writing off loss. Product definitions live in Catalog; Inventory consumes them.

Area Purpose
Warehouses & balances Where stock sits and how much is available
Purchases Supplier stock-in (pending → ordered → received)
Stock adjustments Decrease-only write-offs (breakage, theft, cycle-count short)
Suppliers Supplier records and pay terms (under Contacts)
Opening stock Initial quantities when starting MerchMind
Movements Ledger of stock in / out / transfers

Quantity increases when stock is received (purchase received, opening stock, transfer in) — not when you merely create a catalog item. See Catalog vs stock.

  • Use Purchases (or opening stock) to add stock.
  • Use Stock adjustments only to remove stock that left without a sale, supplier return, or transfer.
