Item pricing modes
When you create or edit a catalog item, the Pricing step controls how you enter buying and selling prices. MerchMind always keeps ex-tax, inc-tax, and profit figures in sync from cost, markup, and selected taxes.
Tax entry mode (Inclusive / Exclusive)
Section titled “Tax entry mode (Inclusive / Exclusive)”On the item form you choose how you prefer to type prices:
| Mode | What you enter | What MerchMind does |
|---|---|---|
| Exclusive | Amounts without tax | Adds tax using the sum of selected tax rates to show inclusive figures |
| Inclusive | Amounts with tax | Strips tax to store the ex-tax amounts used everywhere else |
Stored shelf and cost values are excluding tax. Inclusive fields are derived for display and for tills that show tax-inclusive totals.
Changing taxes or switching Inclusive ↔ Exclusive recalculates the related fields so profit and both price sides stay consistent.
Profit percent
Section titled “Profit percent”Profit % is markup on ex-tax buying price:
Sale (ex tax) = Buying (ex tax) × (1 + profit %)Edit buying price, sale price, or profit % — the others update. New items can seed profit from the tenant setting default profit percent (Catalog settings).
When you receive a purchase, MerchMind can refresh catalog cost (and optionally sell price) from the purchase line — so shelf pricing stays aligned with what you paid.
Default shelf vs price lists
Section titled “Default shelf vs price lists”- Default sale price on the item is the normal shelf price (no special list).
- Selling price groups add optional list prices per product:
- Fixed (ex-tax) — a specific list price
- % of default — a percentage of the item’s default sale price
Bulk maintain those lists under Catalog → Update prices.
Who sees which price at the till
Section titled “Who sees which price at the till”The register does not invent prices. Effective sell price depends on cashier price-list pick, customer group, branch default list, and the item default — see selling price groups.
