Held sales, quotations & credit
On the retail register, a cart is not only “pay now.” MerchMind supports three related outcomes. The labels in the UI matter — especially Held.
Quick comparison
Section titled “Quick comparison”| Outcome | Stock moves? | Payment | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Held (status: suspended) | No | Not finished | Customer tab / pay later from seating; resume from any till in the branch |
| Quotation | No | None | Quote for the customer; open later on the till or convert |
| Credit sale | Yes (completed sale) | Due / partial / paid over time | Customer takes goods now; collect later |
Held sales
Section titled “Held sales”- Shown as Held in the UI (internally still a suspended transaction).
- Useful as a customer tab (e.g. liquor store seating — sell now, settle later).
- Visible and resumable branch-wide from any terminal.
- Closing a shift warns if held sales remain but does not block close — a tab can outlive the shift that opened it.
Quotations
Section titled “Quotations”- Saves the cart without stock movement.
- Manage from the till toolbar list and from POS → Quotations (view, open on till, print, copy, void).
- Supervisors can convert a quotation to a completed due sale without the till (stock out, amount due).
Credit sales
Section titled “Credit sales”- Requires an attached customer.
- Completes like a normal sale for stock and revenue; payment status may stay due or partial.
- Collect later from order history or the customer’s open invoices.
- Customer credit limit and pay terms live on the customer record; outstanding due is calculated from open sales.
